Get ready for the update of a lifetime and by that I mean a lot of info and hardly any sense to it all.
First of all note to self -- update more regularly or at least write it down..Bah. Well on Saturday night we went to Surfers church and earlier that day we had a car wash. Between the car wash and Surfer's Church I met with the dude that may shape my board.
(on the way to go to the shapers)
(On the way back we stopped for shaved ice.. so good.. with ice cream on the bottom)
Than Surfer's Church was epic. Under the stars at some guys house down by the beach we had a huge feast before church and then sat down for some good words from Tom (the big man). Chris was supposed to give the speech but he shot himself with a spear gun when he was fishing.. ha. We sang, praised and enjoyed the love of Christ together. Tom talked about the story of Moses and the burning bush and the conflict of his heart. Tom challenged us to do as Moses did and not only acknowledge God but also reply with "Here I am". Tom was very passionate when he said, When God speaks to you.. listen (yes).. learn and apply with commitment. The whole commitment thing just rocked my world. Commit all to the Lord and leave nothing behind. I can't wait until next week's Surfer's Church (which I might add is a real church.. like not just a thing we call Surfer's Church.. it's a legit registered church.. I thought that was cool -- Surfers Church)
Okay now some about today. First it was church which was nutty.. people falling, screaming, passions and fury. It was good but totally something I'll have to get used to. But the best thing was that Aunti spoke and her son Daniel (a former Duck!) helped tell her story. They just "talk story" the whole time. She told her story of hardship and a crazy childhood but within that finding the peace and praise in the Lord no matter what. She was a 5'5 old Philippino woman with a cane and a loud voice. The main point she just shouted into my heart was in time of trial you are refined to your true faith and within those times of trouble to not run to other, RUN to the Lord. She was crazy encouraging to stay in the word more and not just read but study daily. Over all first day of our church was good.
Than the fun stuff. We got back and headed to the beach. We went to Waimea beach today :)
SO FUN. A bunch of us headed out. Gosh let's see if I can remember. Me, Renee (Seattle) , Andy (Ausi) , Shelly (Cali) , Frida (Swede), Elina (Swede). Emily (Swede), Mimi (Swede), Johanna (Swede) -- gosh and I know I missed a few. Andy and I ran rocks today :)
SO FUN and than Renee and I headed off for some food (fresh food is a novelty). And you know how we at home have seagulls that pester us for our crumbs well here we gotta lotta chickens. It's funny!
And now we are here. I know I missed a lot but I'm losing patience to sit and type type type. Tomorrow we have a day off for the public holiday.. than Tuesday it's into the grind and ready for the real STN experience.
P.S. I almost forgot this one. Last night while we were all kicking back from the day one of the staff members shared with us a story of her friend returning to Christ just a few months ago. It was her best friend that had turned away from the church five years ago and the story of her finding Christ again was amazing, at one point she mentioned her friend said to her "I'm afraid to go looking for God because I know I'll find him." Then just a few weeks later she had found God and listened to his calling. It was such an epic story and such an inspiration to continue to be a living example of Christ's love for those who you love that don't know him. :)
Oh my gosh! That's so awesome Julie! I know it's hard but you're really doing great and I think you're more adaptable than you realize/give yourself credit for. Love ya!
